Expert Sudoku

Expert grids suit advanced players who enjoy pattern recognition and careful multi-step deductions. Several eliminations may be required before any digit can be placed.

Who Expert is for

Choose Expert when triples, box-line interactions and basic fish are dependable parts of your solving process.

Techniques to practise

X-Wing, XY-Wing, skyscrapers, two-string kites and short candidate chains become increasingly useful.

Work from strong links

Focus on digits that appear in exactly two cells of a row, column or box. Mark the endpoints and test how they interact with other strong links.

Common mistake

A pattern name is not proof. Verify every required candidate and every elimination target before changing the grid.

Hard versus Expert

Hard grids emphasize layered subsets and intersections; Expert more often requires fish, wings or linked candidate reasoning.
